The era of the Dragon Kings is one of the first periods of studied history in Wynne. The Dragons had established themselves in the western mountains of Graemal. As the various nations and ethnicities were growing into city/states in other regions across the land, the dragons began to assert dominance by their sheer size and might. Over time, this dominance turned to full subjugation and rule. Over 1000 years long, the dynasty of the dragons was praised by some historians and sages, while decried by others. On the one hand, it was seen as a time of great prosperity, learning and discovery. On the other hand, a time of great oppression, full of uprisings crushed and waves of punitive destruction. During the intervals of peacetime of this era, the elves flourished in the Umbrawood forest, the Umbramire Swamp, and the Emberfire Mountains. The elves of this time had many conflicts with the Khelnar in the swamps and the Arachins in the forests. Twynne Rivers, originally formed as a small trading hub with the early human settlements, grew into a thriving city and trading hub. As the site of many of the hominid rebellions, it was often leveled, burned, and then rebuilt. Eventually, the later dragon kings demanded to be worshipped as gods, drawing on the ancient creation myth. The dragon scholars at the time reasoned that since the myth taught of the formation of the six sacred dragons, who then created the world, Yumirin himself must have been a dragon. Some of the humans accepted this idea, forming a church known as the Dragon's Flame. Late in this era, Heathrax was born and grew up. He led a faction within the ruling dragons that championed a rejection of draconian godhood and greater sovereignty for the hominids. He helped many hominids in their uprisings and battles, giving support and teaching magic. Though none of the rebellions were successful, the elves called him “Giatrice” and gave him the earned name of the Dragonfriend. Heathrax and many others of his faction were exiled to various lands. Heathrax left, but not far, staying in hiding in the Emberfire mountains. The final two of the great Dragon Kings were Maxxin II and his son Maxxin III. Maxxin the II was murdered by his son, who assumed the throne and began a great wave of oppression across the entire land, elevating the Dragon’s Flame and enforcing their beliefs. During this time, the Dragontooth Dagger was created and empowered. Made from the tooth of a felled dragon, it was empowered to slay a dragon with a single slash. It was frequently used in the uprisings, and several assassination attempts, but being a single weapon against many dragons is not historically effective. A few decades into his reign, disease swept through the populations of dragons. Known as the Dragon Pox, it was lethal to almost all dragons who contracted it, and those that survived and healed were severely weakened. No cure, by elixir or magic, was ever found. The hominids, led by the humans discovering the weakened state of the dragon kingdom, combined their armies and rose up again in what is now known as the First Dragon War. The remaining dragons in the Graemal palace were killed or driven away, and the palace looted. Book 1:
